So, I have decided that after years of wanting to travel out of the country I am finally going to do it. I am planning on starting May 7th, 2009 and staying gone the entire summer. I will be going to Mexico and most if not all of Central America. I will be taking a train to Texas and then Greyhound it into Monterrey, MX. I will be saving a lot of money, hopefully, by doing in entirely overland. Another way I will be saving money is taking advantage of a little network called couchsurfing. For those that don’t know it is a system where people agree to let strangers stay on their couch or whatever they have. It is a good way to get to know the people of the area and not just stay in hotels with other Americans. I will have to save a bit of money before I can leave. That is the main reason I have chose a date almost a year a way. Since this will be my first time out of the country I want to be as prepared as possible. One way of preparing is by learning the language. I got a program called Rosetta Stone and am so glad I did. I have taken two years of Spanish and despite this fact I have learned more in the past 3 days than I did during those two semesters. Wish me luck with this.
